SEWING MISTAKES

This part of my hobby could be so annoying it makes me wonder if other sewist go through this irritating mess!!!
I know I'm still an amateur when it comes to seeing but dear me I've never had a dress come out exactly the way I pictured it in my mind's eye. It's always one silly mistake with the sewing or allowance, it just never ends perfect. I always just have to tell myself, "well, only you can notice it" or "it isn't that bad."
Will it ever end? I've learnt from some mistakes but some others I just can't find my way around.
Why I'm I ranting?

A few days back my father told me I would be representing him at an occasion which I'd give such a speech. I killed myself thinking of what I would wear and what I would look like. I finally got a beautiful fabric from my dad. I flipped through my sketch file until I found something good.
A real work began there, I found it so hard calculating the pattern draft, I tried and tried and drafted something hideous. Out of frustration I left it and went to bed. The next day, magical love I got all the calculations and proportions. Too happy to sew I went ahead. Everything was going super perfect until I decided to alter the design by adding an unnecessary detail, my bitterness begun.
Now this detail won't come out fine and I have already spout the main pattern. I was so mad at myself for wasting my whole day on something that was not fruitful. Angrily again, I threw the dress aside and went to bed mad!!!!! Raving mad!!!!!!!
Thank fully, I didn't have to represent my father anymore.
Now, the story doesn't end there, I bothered myself with how horrible I was at sewing, I kept recalling my previous mistakes. In fact I was so bitter the next day. I had to go online to search if other sewists have such experience, and definitely they do have.
I have considered giving up on my hobby since I'm self thought, gaining knowledge is quite a tough task. Other bloggers made me realize mistakes are worth it, they are awesome and perfect one even said if you aren't making mistakes you are not doing anything.
I'm very obsessive and I've realized so are other addicted sewists. Reading what others had to say about 'sewing mistakes' lifted my spirit. MISTAKES don't make a bad tailor. I accept.
I still pray to become perfect and talented as most sewists are because sewing has come definitely to stay.
As for that freakrum dress I must finish it.

And truthfully I did! i dumped it with my fabric stash and I consumed with hate each time I come by it.  Now there is something I noticed. At the time I made that mistake I did not own a seam ripper but oh boy! they are a blessing! every seamstress or dress maker need this not just a scissors, razor. I even met a tailor once using a tiny pin. It was the most painful thing I had to watch.  I am much better than I was when I wrote this, I still make mistakes. Seems you just cannot do without mistakes. As annoying as they can be I have embraced them. There are normal mistakes but mistakes that render the dress useless and your time wasted is a pain!

Here is the tool we all dread to use but it could be the best thing that could happen to anyone. Tailors purchase this and leave a beautiful sew life.
An anatomy is even needed. I once had someone ask me what it was when they saw it in my sewing box. and there is something I used once in the absence of my seam ripper it is used to cut the cuticles, it is called the cuticle cutter. It is not the best but it was helpful.
Anyways, have a lovely day day ahead

For the love of stripes💕💕

Happy new month you all!!! It's already half a year! Wow!
I've missed this blog for real. Each time I always have in mind what to write but then eventually I never do due to mere laziness or lack of interest but not today. This post has long been overdue but it is fine.

This striped skirt has been bae for so long. I made it since year before last because I tot I would wear it. I never did, firstly because I hate to attach hook and eyes to a band and also because my novice skills ensured I made a lot of mistakes with the box pleats. Nevertheless, all that didn't stop me from rocking this beautiful piece one nice sunday.
My love for stripes can't be overstated especially deep blue and white and black and white, I can easily by pass an

y other stripe combination but not those mentioned.

I wore my skirt with a custom made offshoulder blouse. I do love them both together. I could have done without that slim belt but I couldn't cos I hadn't done the band properly but who can guess.

Trust me custom made diy's are the best though then I made mistakes with this skirt but now I can't make such mistakes doing this kinda skirt again.
Here is an illustration of it

Every girl needs a skirt like this. Could be shorter which I believe it's cuter but I needed something to wear to church. You could use a silk or chiffon fabric but with chiffon to make it puffy you need to prepare tulle or sonething. I made use of a very heavy material, not as puffy as I expected but it's fine.

From me and my really cheesy smile. Have a lovely weekend!!! Don't sweat it!! Whatever you have to force to work, let go Huns.

How long does it take to get over a loss

It has been 7 months since I lost an aunty, a friend and a tutor; there is not one day she doesn't come to mind. its been hard really hard and I see her in my dreams too and each time in the dream I am aware she is dead.
Problem is I just can't get over it. My life has changed since she left. i mean, this is someone i was so fund of, i told her stories, she told me too many stories and we watched so many movies together (she was a real movie freak). Best it each time she always told me to pursue my passion in sewing/drawing.
Whenever she was around and I am just sewing away, she would come around and watch me; giving me tales of her childhood.
I loved that woman!
I still remember when i had been drafting the pattern and cutting the pieces of my 'STATEMENT DRESS' she had just sat there and watched asking if i had cut it well and why I had to pair it with red...The day i wore it, she had told me how pretty I had looked in the dress. I still remember her staring vividly at a picture I took in the dress...She'd stared and stared adjusting her thick frame of glasses under the lamp light, gushing about how she couldn't get over the way I did justice to the dress in my novice skills. she had requested for a dress herself but unfortunately never had the chance to wear it.
i miss that woman, most times i get so close to tears each time I think of her but i don't because  i really have to let her go. her death put me through a lot and I have not gotten over her or the turmoil it put me through. it hurts to even know she is gone... she was so alive, so there, so not looking like a candidate for death. it has not been easy, i swear.
i could be seen laughing, chattering away like i have got life at the tips of my fingers but i am wounded, too affected.
Her death has made me scared to live my own life and so scared of the lives of people i care about. yea, i am getting better, i can fall asleep now without having to see her or think about her but it still has not changed the fact that the shock i got from her death makes me sacred to live, it makes me view life as empty,. Does this happen to others? or I'm i just being too dramatic? but i am too affected i want to move on, i don't want to think of her death when i am cruising high up in the sky having in the back of my mine that if she could die... the lane i am in could drop and i would too.
I MISS HER SOOO MUUCH!!! I just recently dedicated my research work/thesis to her and it took me back to how much she wanted to help me, she gave me hers told me to look at it, advised me and told me i would be so proud of myself.
someone said if heaven had opening/visiting hours she would visit her sister. And i wish so too, just to know if she is fine and to tell her i miss hr too much.
well i pray God gives me the grace to get use to the fact that she is gone for eternity and that i am  fine and that i wont lose my life and those around me

I LOVE YOU AUNTY KATE- RIP

The straight skirt series

Happy new year!!! I know it is coming in the second month of the year. I swear this particular month is faster than the first.
A lot is happening around me, just too glad my life is almost summing up for the best in a few months.
I am so glad,a lot of people have been reading this little blog posts of mine in my absence. The views are amazing. It definitely pushed my lazy butts to write something to post. To all my readers, the returning ones and the visitors thank you so much, you have no idea how happy you make me feel. God bless you all and I love you all.
Well, the straight skirt series is definitely a straight skirt series
I can't remember what I was doing but it struck me to sew a peplum blouse and a straight skirt for myself. I had different ideas of how I wanted my peplum to look so I thought to myself why not draw it out. That I did and I painfully decided to render the drawings with the little skills I adopted from YouTube videos and looking at pictures.
It wasn't so difficult after all, though i didn't use high tech drawing and painting materials but my lead pencil, black pen, steadtler twistables, ...
I really love the outcome of it.
Now I need help selecting which one to sew for myself, someone suggested i do all the blouses. I really need one.
Im hoping someone would help me make a choice.
Well really, loving this Ankara feel.
If i am to pick which i would sew i would go with the first one by the left but the one with the highest vote is the first by the right. too confused??
So sorry the image quality isn't the best but it is quite visible.
Have a lovely day ahead!!!

Meet Hautelicious Ambassador

This lil girl is proudly Hautelicious. She has been one right from day one. Having my back, being excited to try out new clothes sewn, ready for photo shoots even when she is sick. She is sickenly cute and adorable! Her name is Grace and she is my lil sister
She isn't my ambassador because she is my little sister but because she is so passionate about fashion and Hautelicious.
Yesterday, she was so down and sick but I was surprised when she offered to dress up and take pics. During the process she lightened up pretty quickly! She is just good

That is my first ambassador at least for kids. The orange Kaftan was made by me. Ain't she too sassy, hot for a Lil girl? For the makeup on her face, she opted for a grown up look.

Croquis Fridays

Yeah! It is Friday again. my best day of the week and I am too sure I am not the only one who loves the beginning of weekends. Especially for a week that must have been too stressful.
I have been busy everyday of this week, the hustle to pass exams and do well. It has been a short but busy week.
Christmas is at the corner, it is already here. The air is crispy and dry over here and it makes me excited for Christmas. You know; family time, full house, plenty stuffs to eat, the laughter, the joy, the miracle, the love. All of it I am already looking forward to it.
In the exam hall when I asked for the date, I just couldn't believe it was already 20th. Wow! it was just 1st a few weeks ago.
Well to the business of the day. A week has gone by without me sketching a design. it has been my goal to have at least three new designs a week which would help me improve my croquis skills.
But bigger goals like acing so many exams has taken over.
I do have some I did a while ago.

This blouse is what I want to make for Christmas

For this week I will be featuring GHAZAL KASIS. A beautiful illustrator on instagram. that is where you see a lot of them. Sometimes when I feel I have seen the best it turns out there is someone who is even better. That is the good thing about talents. No matter how good, there is never a best because each is unique in its own way.

There are too many gorgeous pictures of her illustrations and I would not get started with how much I wish I could render, I would even pay to learn.I love everything about her work, it is so beautiful. I pray to get as good too. Dang! it gets even harder to choose my best or have a role model when they could be so perfect.
Pray you have a lovely weekend filled with so much joy, parties.... And all that stuff that makes the weekend so awesome. For girls like me, it involves sleeping, watching movies and doing my hobbies.
All I am saying is try to get refreshed this weekend.
To all the tailors, couturiers, seamstresses in the world who probably have deadly deadlines for the weekend; asoebis, wedding gowns, and what have you. this is for you

It is a rule for not just your safety but the joy of your customers! Ciao.

Croquis Fridays

Croquis is my favourite kind of art. I love them dang. Croquis is just a simple sketch or rough draft and since I am into fashion illustration it helps to get most of the poses, and attitudes right.
I am still a learner in the aspect of fashion illustration but I am far from where I was a year ago.
How did this come about? I often ask my self that question. I know I have been drawing since I was seven but they use to be all horrible, out of form... not too bad but a little less than average. I did always design shoes and clothes only for the fun of it.
But last year, I went on my stalking routine and found this gifted designer and illustrator. we use to be classmates back in secondary school and she was my roommate once... a cool kid.
one who had always wanted to be a fashion designer and you know, I remember her saying the name of her fashion line would be HUSH VICTOIRE.... something like that I bet she cant even remember but I fell in love with it.
Back to what I was saying, I stalked her on instagram and came across beautiful pictures of her illustration but one struck me too much and inspired me to go learn how to draw... like fashion illustrations.
it was hard at first but I did persist, one year later I am far from before not still perfect but good to go.
Ah, role models like Hayden Williams, Leenavisser, Ze _Malija, Styletemple, etc.
This pictures below are from my very own Ze_Malija AKA Imaobong Ukpabio. Baby girl, you inspired me and I will always owe it to you any where in the world. you go girl.

By one and only Malija

I just love this illustration

Now that is her magic and I do love her works!
For me rendering my illustrations is still an extensive area, I am still training and I pray I get it soon. I cant wait to start having colourful illustrations too.

Below is my own work, they are my latest this past two months. and like I said earlier I still cant render my sketches to make them perfect but it is small things first... we would get there.

This is my very own illustration

This pose was inspired by an iger @leenavisser. I guess that should be it.

Hope they are lovely! See you next Friday

I MISS WHAT I LOVE

This is Tanesha... her surname is always escaping my memory maybe because it is strange. she is a plus size fashion blogger I love so much, GIRLWITHCURVE.COM. That is her site, you can google it. I am following her and I do manage to save a lot of her pictures. And aspiring to become plus size woman in the nearby future-something that must happen due to childbearing- I would love to have dress sense like hers since I actually have a low one for now.
I came across this photo and I fell in love. I loooove the dress and just looking at it reminded me of the fact that I miss sewing. being in school kind of restricts that a lot. if I was home I would immediately run to a thrift store, or a fabric store to get a similar material, return home, transfer my measurements, cut it out and finally bang the pedals of my machine until I have something pretty similar to this.
And I will add a collection to the HAUTETILICIOUS wardrobe. Advertise it on my lil body and make for anyone who is interested. I just love the dress!!!
plus if you do want tutorials on this just lemme know. I'll be glad to share.
